Sen’s Family

The Sen Family traces its origin to Dhaka Bikrampur (in ancient texts also known as Vikramapura), in erstwhile East Bengal & todays Bangladesh.

This ancient and historic city, was the center of power during the Pala Empire (750–1161 CE) and the Sen Dynasty (11th-12th Century), which ruled Bengal and most of the North Eastern regions of the Indian subcontinent. (Interestingly the rulers of the Sena Dynasty traced their origin to the south Indian region of Karnataka.) It was a significant cultural and political centre in Bengal. It was also at one time a major Buddhist pilgrimage & education center with a temple/monastry discovered which dates back to the period 990-1050 AD.

Bikrampur today is part of the Munshiganj District in Bangladesh. A lot of history of Bikrampur is lost due to its inundation as its located along the banks of the Padma River, a major distributary of the Ganges.
